Rh-Negative Pregnancy & the Anti-D Injection
आरएच-नेगेटिव प्रेग्नेंसी और एंटी-डी इंजेक्शन
If your blood group has a MINUS sign (O-, A-, B-, AB-) and your baby's is positive, your body can make antibodies against the baby's blood. It almost never harms the FIRST baby — it harms the NEXT one. A single injection called anti-D prevents this almost completely, and it is one of the great success stories of modern obstetrics. In countries without proper anti-D programmes, 14% of affected babies are stillborn and half of those born alive suffer death or brain injury. Cases still happen — almost always because a dose was missed.
When to see a doctor
- TURANT HOSPITAL — Rh-negative hain aur pet pe chot lagi, gir gayin, ya accident hua (chahe bilkul theek lag raha ho — 72 ghante ke andar anti-D chahiye)
- TURANT DOCTOR — Rh-negative hain aur pregnancy mein bleeding ho rahi hai (bleeding = sensitising event, anti-D ki zarurat ho sakti hai)
- AAJ POOCHHO — Miscarriage/abortion/ectopic hua hai aur aap Rh-negative hain (72 ghante ki ginti aaj se shuru hai)
- DOCTOR SE POOCHHO — 28 week ho gaye aur anti-D ka zikr kisi ne nahi kiya, ya delivery ho gayi aur injection nahi laga
